MANILA - A Filipina who has been living in Malaysia was found burned to death inside her house in southern Malaysia.
The Pinay was identified as Ruby Lloren, 35, who hails from Polomok, South Cotabato.
Her sister, Shiela, told ABS-CBNnews.com said her sister's husband broke the news to them Tuesday afternoon, the same day the incident happened.
The Lloren family was told that a robber broke into the couple's house while the husband was away.
The husband, whose name was not disclosed yet by the Lloren family for personal reasons, told Shiela the robber burned their house, in the process killing the Filipina.
She said details from the husband and Malaysian investigators are still limited as of posting, but members of the Lloren family were asked to go to Malaysia next week for DNA testing.
The husband told them he is willing to pay all the expenses for the family.
The victim has been living with her Malaysian husband for seven years in Johor Bahru and was working in a fast food chain, according to her mother, Virginia.
She is survived by a 9-year-old daughter.
Grief of a mother
Virginia was informed that her daughter was holding money, which was supposed to be sent home to them, when the crime happened.
"Masakit isipin... Marami siyang pangarap para sa amin," she said.
Virginia was also told that autopsy results show that the Pinay was poisoned first before she was burned to death.
"Ang lumabas sa autopsy, pinalanghap siya ng lason bago siya sinunog," she said in Bisaya.
A cousin of the victim, meanwhile, recalled the Filipina as a caring woman.
"Ruby used to take care if us, me and my bro, while we were still kids," Key Manatad told ABS-CBNnews.com.
Key, Shiela, Virginia, and the rest of the Llorente family are seeking help from the government to give justice to Ruby and possibly bring her body back in the Philippines for a proper burial.
Embrahim Zailon, head of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in General Santos City, meanwhile, admitted that the process of getting the body might take some time because of the investigation of Malaysian authorities.
He said his office reported the incident to the DFA main office and the Philippine embassy in Malaysia.
"Ni-report namin kaagad ito sa Maynila at sa Philippine embassy sa sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia," he said.
