VIRAL: Ouch! Filipino divers at SEA Games in painful landing

After an embarrassing performance at the SEA Games, two Filipino athletes found a reason to stay positive, thanks to their supporters who cheered them on.
John David Pahoyo and John Elmerson Fabriga, who were competing at the 3-meter springboard diving finals at the OCBC Aquatic Center in Singapore, both scored zero in Dive 4 after landing on their backs, the painful splash recorded for the world to see.

The video has now gone viral, with re-posts noting of how painful it must have been.
Instead of wallowing in sorrow, Pahoyo chooses to “laugh at myself,” emphasizing that he isn’t the first athlete to have had such a bad landing.
“This was not the first time I failed a dive, and I was not the first one who did so. And I am still proud because not all of us has the privilege to represent our own country [in a] big sporting event like this,” Pahoyo said in a comment posted on the viral thread on Facebook, Thursday.
He added, ”can you still smile after getting embarrassed in front of thousands of people?”
Pahoyo said he also did not expect to serve as an inspiration after his flop.
“Hindi ko inakalang makaka-inspire tayo nang maraming tao through our mistake and the way kung paano natin hinarap yung embarrassment at failure natin. Salamat po sa mga sumusuporta sa amin,” he said in a separate post.
But while netizens lauded the positivity, others asked the athletes to do better next time and to train well so they won’t be embarrassing while representing the Philippines.
It was not all bad in SEA Games stint though, and this video Pahoyo posted is his proof.

Yey! I'm so proud of us pakner John Fabriga, we really did our best despite of we just practiced this synchro dives for just 4 days, even though we failed to win, but atleast we did overcame what we once knew was out limit, and that makes us a champion <3 Thanks coach Brian Palattao for your endless support and immeasurable love to us from the preparation until the end of this competition, and special thanks to the people who's doing their best to make this experience possible, I owe you all of this :) #SG2015 #SEA #Games #Singapore #Diving #Pilipinas

LOOK: Kiss from big brother in pics of Britain's royal baby

LONDON, United Kingdom - The first photos of Britain's Princess Charlotte together with Prince George, who is pictured giving his baby sister a kiss, were released by Kensington Palace on Saturday.

The four photographs, taken by their mother Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, show 21-month-old George sitting on a sofa holding Charlotte.
The portraits were taken when Charlotte, born on May 2, was around two weeks old.
They were taken at Anmer Hall, Prince William and his wife Kate's country mansion on his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's private Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England.
Propped up by two white cushions, Charlotte appears to be wearing a white romper suit with a matching jumper.
Her brother is dressed in a white shirt with blue piping detail around the collar, cuffs and front, and matching blue socks and shorts.
One picture shows George planting a kiss on his sister's forehead, another shows him tenderly looking down at her, a third shows him looking up and a fourth shows him smiling.
"Prince George and Princess Charlotte together at home #WelcomeToTheFamily," Kensington Palace, William and Kate's official residence in London, said as they released the image on social media.
"We're delighted to share the first photo of Prince George with his little sister Princess Charlotte.
"The photo of Prince George and Princess Charlotte was taken by The Duchess of Cambridge in mid-May."
Pictures of George have been rare. Only a handful of sets have been released, while he has rarely been seen in public.
The first pictures released of George at home after his birth were taken by Kate's father Michael Middleton.
George, who is directly in line to inherit the throne after his grandfather Prince Charles and then William, was last seen when his father took him to hospital to see his newborn sister.
Earlier, Kensington Palace released pictures of the multitudes of gifts, cards and toys the family received after Charlotte's birth, sent from all around the world.
They showed bundles of mail stacked up on filing cabinets, knitted dolls, slippers and bonnets and hand-written cards from schoolchildren.
"Thank you to everyone who took the time to make handmade gifts," the palace said.
It was announced Friday that Charlotte will be christened on July 5 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham, where William's late mother Diana was baptized.
Charlotte will be christened as a member of the Church of England by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, spiritual leader of the Anglican Church.
William and Kate have been staying at Anmer Hall in Sandringham since Charlotte's birth at St Mary's Hospital in London.
In tribute to his grandmother and mother, William and Kate gave Charlotte the middle names Elizabeth and Diana.
The princess is fourth in line to the throne after her brother Prince George, who was born on July 22, 2013. He was baptized at St James's Palace in London.

Review: 'Insidious 3' shows evolution of Elise

The first two "Insidious" films were about how the embattled Lambert family was helped by one Elise Rainier to fight the ghosts that had latched on to them. This frail-looking, soft-spoken elderly lady is a psychic who uses her gift to help people communicate with the dead by being able to enter the spirit dimension called "The Further."

Here in "Insidious: Chapter 3," we get to know Elise more as she becomes the central character and we learn how she had evolved into the demon fighter we know.
In this present episode, we go two years before the events of the first "Insidious" film. Elise Rainier had already retired from contacting spirits because a malevolent female ghost had been threatening to kill her whenever Elise made spirit contacts. Young Quinn Brenner sought her services to talk to her recently departed mother Lilith. After initial resistance, Elise relented and tried to help Quinn make contact.
However, in that session, an evil spirit dubbed The Man Who Can't Breathe, a wheezy old man with an oxygen mask, seemed to have latched on to poor Quinn causing the teen to experience serious physical injuries and various other eerie manifestations. As the ghostly activity in their apartment escalate, Quinn's father Sean sought Elise's assistance again to help Quinn out of her ghostly predicament. Can Elise conquer her own ghosts in time to help Quinn conquer hers?
After having known Elise Rainier from the previous two "Insidious" films, I have grown fond of this brave woman. With her kind face and gentle voice, veteran actress Lin Shaye imbues Elise with a serene grandmotherly demeanor which audiences can easily root for when her character experiences adversities. Her climactic spirit battle scene here in "Chapter 3" drew positive audience response when Elise uncharacteristically displayed her own brand of badass bravado.

I enjoyed the part where they showed the origin of the Spectral Sightings team of mohawked techie Tucker and nerdy writer Specs, played by Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell. Like in the two previous films, these two guys effectively provide the humorous relief in the proceedings. As the victim of the ghostly attacks, Stefanie Scott was very natural and likeable in her portrayal of Quinn. She was adequately supported by Dermot Mulroney as her harassed single father Sean.
Writer Leigh Whannell also tries on the directorial gloves for the first time for this film. Certainly he drew a lot from the original director James Wan's style to keep the distinct "Insidious" atmosphere intact. Plenty of the horror here were jump scares -- those long silent pauses that were shattered by loud blasts of music and a sudden spooky image on screen will jolt you.
Despite being a prequel, Whannell also effectively injected elements which tied in with the first two films like the Bride in Black and the Red-Faced Ghost, whose unexpected appearances surely excited "Insidious" fans.
Overall, I would suspect that fans of the first "Insidious" films will appreciate this film more. I think this sentimental attachment we feel towards Elise and the other continuing characters contributed much to my appreciation for this third chapter. Part 4 is such a welcome prospect. 7/10

Zephanie Dimaranan sang the OPM classic “Till I Met You,” which she dedicated to her grandmother who passed away in 2012.
“Simula po noong bata ako, kinakantahan niya po ako. Kaya po siguro natuto din po akong kumanta,” she said of her grandmother.
The girl’s mother, Richelle, said all her children love singing, so they make it a point to exercise together so they can improve their breathing.
Geronimo and Bamboo turned their chairs for Dimaranan. Lea Salonga explained that she didn’t turn for as she is more critical of interpretations of songs she has covered before. “But you sang it very well,” Salonga said.
Geronimo and Bamboo fought to get Dimaranan, whose blind audition was used in the teaser for this season of "The Voice Kids."

“'Yung boses mo, you sound your age . Hindi ka boses matanda, hindi mo pinapalaki yung boses mo,” Geronimo said.
For his part, Bamboo said, “May isang linya ka na parang kumapit, na bumukas lahat. Na nagustuhan ko talaga. At ‘yong isang linya na yon, iniisip ko hanggang dulo. At sinabi ko sa sarili ko, hindi kita palalabasin.”
In the end, Dimaranan chose to join the team of Geronimo, who coached Lyca Gairanod to victory last season.

Probe urged on case of Pinay burned to death in Johor

MANILA - The Philippine Embassy in Malaysia and Vice President Jejomar Binay have called on a full probe into the death of a Filipina in Johor Bahru in Malaysia last June 2.

“The Embassy, through its Police Attaché, has asked Malaysian police authorities for a full investigation of the tragic incident, particularly how and why Ms. [Ruby Lloren] was ‘trapped’ inside the burning house,” the embassy said in a statement.
Lloren’s Malaysian husband said a robber broke in and burned the house down while he was away.
The Filipina’s family alleged, however, that autopsy results showed traces of poison in her system.
Lloren, who has a nine-year-old child, lived in Malaysia for over seven years.
In a separate press release, Binay said: "I urge our embassy in Kuala Lumpur to exhaust all means necessary to help shed light on the death of our kababayan and in the process, bring justice to her family.”
"I am saddened and gravely concerned by her death and a call for an immediate and impartial probe is called for," he added.

Pinay crowned Miss Teenage Winnipeg 2015

WINNIPEG, Canada - Mikaela Abraham Mendez brought pride to the Filipino community, besting 16 candidates from all over Manitoba as she bagged the 2015 provincial title of Miss Teenage Winnipeg.
It was a sweet and humbling victory for the 17-year-old Filipina who never joined a pageant in the past.
"I wasn't really looking to win just making new friends and just getting the whole experience but when they called my name I was numb. I was definitely surprised. I was overjoyed. It was a very good feeling because it showed that my hard work has definitely paid off," Mendez said.
Mendez will vie for the Miss Teenage Canada title in Toronto this August to become Canada's next beauty and goodwill ambassador.
She wants to use the opportunity to highlight an issue close to her heart.
"The platform that I chose was poverty because I believe that there is not enough awareness in our society and I wanted to make the change. I just want to be a good role model to -- especially my siblings -- I wanted to show them that if your heart is set to something then it never hurts to go for it and if you lose, you lose, and if you win it only opens so many more doors," she said.
Mendez, who was born and raised in Winnipeg, has always had a winning attitude in life, her parents said.
"Ever since Mikaela was a little girl she has always been motivated and determined and always worked for what she wanted," said her mother, Jackie Mendez.
"She grew up with very high grades up until now through high school she has been an honor roll she has always lead by example."

"We’re so proud of having her crowned as Miss Teen Winnipeg, and being the only Filipina in the pageant – we're so proud,” said Jairemaine Mendez, Mikaela’s father.

Yahoo Inc said it was shutting down a few of its services, including Yahoo Maps, as it realigns itself to focus on search and digital content.

Maps.yahoo.com will shut down by the end of this month, Amotz Maimon, Yahoo's chief architect, said in a blog post, as the service faces intense competition from Google Inc's Maps service.

These steps follow efforts by Chief Executive Marissa Mayer to revive meaningful revenue growth with a string of acquisitions and product revamps.
Mayer has been under pressure to make quicker progress in strengthening the company's media and advertising business.
Yahoo is scaling back mail support on the built-in Mail app for older versions of Apple Inc's iPhone operating system, Maimon said on Thursday.
Yahoo said the Philippines homepage would be shuttered. It will also close Yahoo Music services in France and Canada and Yahoo Movies in Spain.
Media services such as Yahoo TV and Yahoo Autos will be stopped in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy at the end of June.

The man showed fear as he was looking for the baby sharks but he was eager to save those sharks. He carefully searched for them and when he finally saw the babies, he cut the thin pieces of skin and let the babies out. One by one they were headed back to the sea and released by the family.
